Branch History
The Auckland branch of Clan Cameron New Zealand was re-formed in 1986 following the visit to New Zealand by Lochiel and Lady Margaret.
Due to the efforts of Brian and Pam Cameron, through advertising and word of mouth, over 50 Camerons had come forward to welcome and entertain Lochiel and Lady Margaret during their Auckland visit in 1986. Subsequently, at a later function in Wellington, Donald Cameron, the New Zealand president, asked Neil Cameron if he would endeavour to form an Auckland Branch, based on Brian and Pam’s work. After writing to all Camerons in the Auckland area inviting them to a meeting, a branch was formed on 18 November 1986. Neil Cameron was elected president and remained president for the next 15 years.

In 1988 a tent was erected at the Auckland Highland Games to display our history, culture and to encourage membership. This attendance has continued annually and since 1996 has included the Waipu Highland Games. Later the Paeroa Highland Games was added to the list. These Games are a wonderful introduction to our traditions and culture, the Auckland Games especially as they are free. A day of piping, drumming, Highland Dancing, Scottish Country Dancing, field events, and Scottish food make these days special.
The first mid-winter dinner was held in 1988 and this has become an annual event for the branch. Apart from the popular dinner other activities are arranged, such as visits, picnics, barbecues and lunches. In the past visits have been made to Rangitoto Island, Tiri Tiri Matangi Island and Motuihe Island.
